Walking Safari
February 24, 2011
Walk on Kenya’s diverse and spectacular countryside and lose yourself in Kenya’s stunning wilds. Explore with camels as our friendly beasts of burden. The guides are fluent in natural history, English, Swahili, Maa, the local culture and will provide you with a luxurious adventure you will never forget.
Unlike a vehicle-based safari, a walking safari allows the traveler to enjoy a more intimate insight into Kenya’s animals and its people.
Day 1 – Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya! Transfer from the airport to Nairobi’s most relaxing address! After your long flight, Palacina will be a breath of fresh air. Relax in one of Nairobi’s finest suites with sophisticated décor that offers comfort and flexibility, all the luxuries of a five star hotel, with special personalized service, a relaxed atmosphere and great attention to detail. A mouth watering dinner awaits you after you freshen up and relax. Accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis only.
Day 2 – Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Depart Nairobi’s Wilson airport for your scheduled morning flight to Nanyuki. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to Kicheche Laikipia Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, approximately 45 minutes away. Have lunch at camp then relax until afternoon tea is served. Venture out on a late afternoon game drive to enjoy the wonderful array of wildlife in the rolling plains of Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Return to camp for a hot shower before joining other guests for a drink around the campfire or in Kicheche Laikipia’s cozy lounge tent. Dine under the stars or in the adjacent dining tent. All meals and overnight stay at Kicheche Laikipia Camp.

Day 3 – Ol Pejeta Conservancy
An early start to the day with hot coffee or tea brought right to your tent. Take a longer game drive and enjoy a sumptuous picnic breakfast out on the plains under the gaze of Mount Kenya. Return to camp for an al-fresco lunch and relax afterwards observing the birdlife and game around the waterhole. In the aftern0on, treat yourself to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary on a private visit. Following some time with the chimps continue on your evening game drive until dusk before returning to camp for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 4 – Ol Pejeta Conservancy to Karisia
Take an early morning walking excursion from camp with one of the guides and a ranger. Return to camp for an al-fresco breakfast before departing on a scenic drive to Karisia to walk on Kenya’s diverse and spectacular countryside and lose yourself in Kenya’s stunning wilds. A walking safari allows the traveler to enjoy a more intimate insight into Kenya’s animals and its people. All meals and overnight stay in tents or mosquito nets and fly sheet under the stars, complete with bedding and pillow are provided.
Day 5 – Karisia
Awake with the rising sun, eat a delicious breakfast prepared by the Samburu chefs, and begin the journey accompanied by a Laikipia Maasai tracker and a few riding camels who carry the refreshments and day-packs. Arrive at the next camp to be greeted with a cool drink and a gourmet lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing, enjoying a stream or river, having a siesta or fishing before going for an evening walk and sundowners. In the evening the staff will offer hot showers before drinks by the fire and a three-course dinner under the stars.
Day 6 – Karisia
In the early morning you will be woken with a ‘hodi’ (knock knock) and hot water in your basin outside the tent. Head out after breakfast and walk across large plains as well as mixed bush. Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant’s gazelle predominate on the large plains with smaller numbers of Jackson’s Hartebeest and Thompson’s Gazelle. In the mixed bush we find Dik Dik, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if we are lucky enough to see them. At camp we will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch we will follow our routine of resting, reading or badminton for the energetic and later another walk in the evening to a pretty spot for sundowners.
Day 7 – Karisia to Nairobi
Depart Laikipia after our morning meal viewing game enroute and proceed to Nanyuki to catch our flight to Nairobi. On arrival at Wilson Airport, you will be met and transferred to Palacina Suites for your overnight stay. Accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis only.
